Astilbe is a shade-loving perennial known for its soft, feathery plumes of flowers that rise above a mound of finely divided, fern-like foliage. Pink varieties produce airy spikes of light to rose-pink blooms in early to mid-summer, creating a light, textured appearance in woodland or shade gardens. The foliage forms a dense clump of glossy green leaves that provide attractive texture even when the plant is not in bloom. Astilbe is commonly used in borders, shaded beds, and moist garden areas, and the flowers are also excellent for fresh or dried arrangements.
