White Astilbe is a classic shade-garden perennial valued for its elegant, feathery flower plumes that rise above finely divided, fern-like foliage. In early to mid-summer, creamy white to pure white blooms form dense, airy spikes that brighten shaded beds and woodland plantings. The foliage forms a compact mound of deep green leaves, providing attractive texture throughout the growing season even after flowering. White varieties are often used to create contrast with darker foliage plants such as hosta and heuchera, and they perform particularly well in moist, humus-rich soils.
