'Little Lime' Hydrangea is a deciduous shrub that belongs to the Hydrangea paniculata species. It is a smaller version of the more well-known 'Limelight' Hydrangea. The flowers of 'Little Lime' are cone-shaped panicles that start off a bright lime-green color in early summer. As the season progresses, the blooms gradually transition to shades of soft-pink and continue to deepen as they age. The flowers can persist into the fall season, providing extended interest in the garden.

  • Size: As mentioned earlier, 'Little Lime' Hydrangea usually reaches a height and spread of 3 to 5 feet, making it an excellent choice for smaller gardens, containers, or even as a border plant.
  • Location: Plant the shrub in a spot that receives partial sun to dappled shade. Too much direct sunlight can cause the flowers to fade quickly and the leaves to scorch.
  • Soil: 'Little Lime' prefers well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. It can tolerate various soil types but thrives in loamy soil.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Regular watering is essential, especially during dry spells.
  • Fertilizer: Feed the plant with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring. You can also use a fertilizer that is formulated for acid-loving plants, as Hydrangeas prefer slightly acidic soil.
  • Pruning: Pruning is generally done in late winter or early spring. 'Little Lime' blooms on new wood, so you can prune back the old growth to encourage new shoots and a compact shape.
  • Winter Protection: In colder climates, mulch around the base of the plant in late fall to help protect the roots from freezing temperatures.
