The Mandarin Tango is a naturally dense and mounded shrub with vibrant orange flowers on and off from June until frost, contrasting fine textured deep green foliage; flower color is best in light afternoon shade, tough and adaptable, dislikes wet soils

  • Size: Potentilla shrubs can vary in size depending on the species and growing conditions. They typically reach a height of 2 to 4 feet (60 to 120 cm) and have a similar spread.
  • Sunlight: Potentilla plants prefer full sun to partial shade. Ensure they receive at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day for optimal growth and blooming.
  • Soil: They thrive in well-draining, loamy soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH range. Improve soil drainage by adding organic matter if necessary.
  • Watering: When young, these shrubs need regular watering to establish their root systems. Once established, they become somewhat drought-tolerant. Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out between watering sessions.
  • Fertilizer: Use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring to promote healthy growth and flowering. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for application rates.
  • Pruning: Potentilla generally benefits from regular pruning to maintain a neat shape and encourage more flowers. Prune them in late winter or early spring before new growth appears. Remove dead or diseased wood and trim back old flower stems.
  • Winter protection: In colder climates, add a layer of mulch around the base of the plant in late fall to protect the roots from freezing temperatures.
