Peperomia is a popular genus of small, low-maintenance houseplants that belong to the Piperaceae family. With over 1,500 known species, Peperomia plants are loved for their attractive foliage, compact size, and ease of care.

  • Light Requirements: Peperomias thrive in bright, indirect light. Avoid placing them in direct sunlight, as it can scorch their leaves. A north or east-facing window is usually ideal for these plants.
  • Temperature: Peperomias prefer moderate temperatures ranging from 65°F to 75°F (18°C to 24°C). Protect them from extreme temperature fluctuations and drafts.
  • Watering: It's important not to overwater Peperomia plants. Allow the top inch (2.5 cm) of soil to dry out before watering again. They prefer slightly moist soil but can tolerate slight periods of drought. Watering once a week is a good starting point, but adjust based on your specific environment.
  • Humidity: Peperomias can tolerate average household humidity levels, but they appreciate a bit of extra humidity. You can increase humidity by placing a tray filled with water near the plant or using a humidifier.
  • Soil: Peperomias prefer well-draining soil. A mix of peat moss, perlite, and regular potting soil works well. Avoid using heavy soils that retain too much moisture, as it can lead to root rot.
  • Fertilization: Peperomias are not heavy feeders. Fertilize them once a month during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble houseplant fertilizer at half the recommended strength.
