The Amur maple (Acer ginnala) is a small, deciduous tree or large shrub valued for its fine texture, graceful branching, and outstanding seasonal color. It has glossy, dark green, three-lobed leaves that are slightly serrated and emit a mild fragrance when crushed. In autumn, the foliage transforms into vivid shades of scarlet, orange, and red. Small, fragrant white flowers appear in spring, followed by winged samaras that often blush pink to red. The bark is smooth and gray-brown when young, becoming lightly furrowed with age, adding winter interest.
