‘Aurora’ honeyberry is a cold-hardy, deciduous fruiting shrub with an upright to slightly spreading habit. It produces soft green, oval leaves early in spring, followed by small, pale yellow flowers that tolerate late frosts. The fruit is elongated and deep blue with a waxy bloom, noted for its large size, juicy texture, and sweet-tart flavor. Berries mature earlier than most other small fruits.

  • Size: Mature height: 5–6 ft (1.5–1.8 m). Mature spread: 4–5 ft (1.2–1.5 m). Growth habit: Upright, moderately vigorous
  • Sun: Full sun to light shade (best fruiting in full sun)
  • Soil: Well-drained, fertile soil; slightly acidic to neutral pH
  • Water: Moderate; keep evenly moist, especially during flowering and fruit development
  • Hardiness: Extremely cold hardy; suitable for very cold climates
  • Pollination: Requires cross-pollination with another compatible honeyberry cultivar (e.g., ‘Borealis’ or ‘Honeybee’)
  • Fertilization: Apply compost or a balanced fertilizer in early spring
  • Pruning: Minimal when young; after establishment, remove dead or overcrowded branches in late winter or early spring
  • Harvest: Mid-season; berries ripen early summer and may drop when fully ripe
