Bergenia is a hardy, clump-forming perennial known for its bold, rounded, leathery leaves that create a strong architectural presence in the garden. The foliage forms dense mounds of glossy green leaves that often develop attractive bronze or reddish tones in fall and winter. In early spring, thick upright stems rise above the foliage carrying clusters of bell-shaped flowers in shades of pink, red, or white. Because of its coarse texture and evergreen tendencies, Bergenia provides year-round interest and is commonly used in shaded borders, woodland gardens, and as a durable groundcover.
