Kintzley’s Ghost® Honeysuckle (Lonicera reticulata ‘Kintzley’s Ghost’) is a striking, hardy climbing vine prized for its luminous foliage rather than its flowers. Emerging in spring with silvery-blue to chartreuse leaves, the foliage glows against darker garden backdrops and gradually matures to a soft blue-green as the season progresses. In early summer, subtle yellow, tubular flowers appear nestled among the leaves, followed occasionally by small red berries. Its twining habit makes it ideal for arbors, trellises, and fences, where it adds both vertical interest and a cool-toned elegance to the landscape.

  • Size: Typically grows 10–15 ft (3–4.5 m) tall with a spread of 4–6 ft (1.2–1.8 m) when supported
  • Light: Performs best in full sun to partial shade; brighter light enhances foliage color
  • Soil: Prefers well-drained soil; adaptable to average garden soils
  • Water: Moderate water needs; drought tolerant once established
  • Hardiness: Zone 3–8, extremely cold hardy
  • Maintenance: Low maintenance; prune lightly after flowering to shape or control size
  • Growth Habit: Twining climber; requires a support structure
  • Wildlife Value: Flowers attract pollinators; berries may attract birds
  • Pest & Disease Resistance: Generally resistant to pests and diseases, and not prone to invasive behavior
  • Pest and Disease Control: Mandarin honeysuckle is relatively resistant to pests and diseases. However, keep an eye out for aphids, spider mites, and powdery mildew, especially in humid conditions. Treat any infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil.
