Honeywood Saskatoon, a variety of Serviceberry or Juneberry, is a deciduous shrub known for its ornamental value and delicious edible berries.  The size makes it an excellent choice for smaller garden spaces or containers in the Sherwood Greenhouse.

  • Size: Mature plants typically reach a height of 4 to 6 feet with a spread of 3 to 5 feet.
  • Light: Requires full sun to partial shade, ensuring it receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
  • Soil: Thrives in well-draining, slightly acidic soil with a pH of 5.5 to 6.5.
  • Water: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during the growing season and when the berries are forming.
  • Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead or diseased branches and shape the shrub. Remove any suckers to maintain a tidy appearance.
  • Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring before new growth begins.
  • Pollination: Cross-pollination with another Saskatoon variety improves fruit set and yield, so consider planting multiple shrubs if space allows.
  • Pest and Disease Control: Monitor for common pests like aphids and caterpillars, and treat as necessary with organic or chemical controls. Watch for signs of diseases such as powdery mildew and rust, and promptly address any issues to prevent spread.
