The Royalty Preston Lilac (Syringa × prestoniae ‘Royalty’) is a hardy, deciduous flowering shrub well suited to Regina’s cold, continental climate. It forms a dense, upright to rounded shrub with strong branching and a tidy, non-suckering habit. In late spring, it produces large, showy panicles of rich violet-purple flowers emerging from deep purple buds, blooming slightly later than common lilacs and extending the lilac season on the prairies. The flowers are lightly fragrant and attractive to pollinators. Dark green foliage provides a clean summer appearance and turns yellow in fall. This lilac is valued for its excellent cold hardiness, disease resistance, and dependable performance in full sun and well-drained soils common to southern Saskatchewan.
