Rubus idaeus ‘Double Delight’ is a vigorous, upright, multi-stemmed raspberry shrub with dark green leaves that often turn orange-red in fall. It produces small white flowers in spring that develop into bright red, medium to large raspberries. This primocane (everbearing) variety fruits on new canes in late summer through fall. Canes have fine thorns, and the plant spreads via suckers, forming dense patches if left unchecked.

  • Mature Size: Height: 4–5 ft (1.2–1.5 m), Spread: 4–5 ft (1.2–1.5 m)
    • Light: Full sun (6+ hrs/day) for best fruiting
    • Soil: Well-drained, fertile, rich in organic matter; avoid soggy soil
    • Water: Keep evenly moist, especially during establishment and fruiting; mulch to retain moisture
    • Pruning: Cut canes to ground each late fall or early spring (primocane crop); optional retention of older canes for summer floricane crop
    • Spacing: 18–24″ (45–60 cm) apart
    • Winter Hardiness: Hardy to Regina Zone 2–3 winters; mulch for extra protection
    • Additional Notes: Self-fertile but benefits from pollinators; may require staking or wind protection in exposed sites
