Japanese Spikenard ‘Sun King’ is a striking herbaceous perennial valued for its bold, golden-chartreuse foliage and lush tropical appearance. Large compound leaves emerge bright yellow in spring, forming a dense mound that illuminates shaded areas of the garden. The foliage gradually softens to chartreuse in deeper shade while maintaining its vibrant presence throughout the season. In late summer, tall stems carry airy clusters of tiny white flowers that are followed by decorative dark purple berries. Its dramatic foliage and upright form make it an excellent focal plant in woodland gardens, shaded borders, and contemporary landscape plantings.
