Syringa villosa, commonly known as the Late Lilac or Villosa Lilac, is a robust, upright-to-rounded deciduous shrub celebrated for its fragrant, rosy-lavender to soft pink flower panicles that bloom 2–3 weeks after common lilacs, beautifully extending the lilac season into early summer. Native to northern China and Korea, this species is exceptionally cold-hardy and well-suited to the rigours of prairie growing conditions. The large, oval, dark green leaves have a slightly rough texture and remain attractive and disease-free throughout the season — notably resistant to the powdery mildew that plagues many other lilac species. A reliable, long-lived shrub that rewards minimal care with decades of fragrant blooms.
