White spruce is a hardy, native evergreen conifer valued for its classic pyramidal form and dense, symmetrical branching. It features short, stiff, blue-green to green needles with a slightly waxy appearance and a sharp, spruce-like fragrance when crushed. The bark is thin and scaly, gray to brown, and the tree produces slender, light brown cones that hang gracefully from the branches. Its tidy habit and year-round color make it a cornerstone species for shelterbelts, windbreaks, and large landscapes.
